March 2016 sales numbers have been released by SIAM and the team at EMMAAA has analysed the numbers in detail.
At times the March numbers are clerical work providing very little in terms of analysis. Over eager sales managers want to make their books look good and tend to dump inventory at dealer’s end. As a result, March often gets a big pop. This is then followed by some inventory correction in April.
Passenger Cars again faced a roadblock even as a heathy UV segment and a resurgent Vans segment ensured that Passenger Vehicles registered a 5.14% sales growth.
Things were better elsewhere. Commercial Vehicles continued to grow as per trend and even Small Trucks and Light Commercial Vehicles reported strong growth in dispatches. An anomaly was Medium Commercial Vehicles which saw a dip in dispatches.
The two-wheeler segment had a good month with Scooters delivering strong growth numbers once again. Even Motorcycles in the volume segments saw a strong uptick in sales.
