June sales dispatch numbers are off to an explosive start with Maruti-Suzuki reporting a 31.1% increase in dispatches.
Update 1 at 3 40 pm, 1st July 2014: Added Mahindra, Nissan, GM India, Hyundai and Honda numbers
Even more encouraging, the Mini segment has regained its mojo with a 52% increase in dispatches.
Numbers also looked great for the Vans segment, as dispatches of MSIL’s hard-top vans jumped 42.5% from previous June.
Mahindra disappointed with its numbers but it wasn’t a washout. The company managed to hold on to its volumes from last year, dispatches declining by only 2.6%.
Hyundai had a good month with the Xcent small sedan and the Grand i10 hatchback providing momentum. The company reported a 9.5% improvement in dispatches.
Honda is still enjoying the success of the Amaze and the warm response to the New City. Dispatches improved by 75.5% for the company.
It was also a good month for Nissan / Datsun as the two brands saw a 47.9% jump in dispatches, riding the initial popularity of the Datsun Go hatchback.
However, GM India is still facing all sorts of trouble as dispatches declined 21% from previous years.
Trouble also stays with Tata Motors as the brand saw a whopping 33% decline in dispatches in the month.
While it did manage to end in the positive zone, Ford needs to worry about its sales numbers. In a month when the market leaders managed double digit growth, Ford managed only 1.6% increase in dispatches.
Toyota had a good month and saw a 9.1% increase in dispatches.
Overall the passenger vehicle market is 17.7% up as we await numbers from the Volkswagen group companies and some smaller brands. We expect the overall market to end up 15% up from previous June.
Which would be a stellar performance by any measure.
