The year has started with a whimper as Maruti-Suzuki sales numbers were rather disappointing. The company dispatched 106383 units in January 2016, a 0.78% improvement over Jan 2015 dispatches of 105559 units. Almost all segments suffered a decline with only the incremental S-Cross numbers pushing the numbers into the positive zone. The S-Cross was also helped by the old warhorses Omni, Eeco and DZire Tour.
Mini dispatches were down 4.3% and Compact car segment dispatches were down 2.8%. This is worrying considering the Compact segment also includes incremental volumes of the Baleno. Considering the Baleno would be accepting for nearly 10,000 units, this signals a big fall in Swift volumes.
Also out are Mahindra numbers and there is a 12.85% jump in dispatches as the TUV 3oo and the KUV 1oo improved numbers.
